Most kangaroos aren't known for their aggression, but Rosemary Neal was unlucky enough to meet one of the exceptions.
The 65-year-old Australian was on her farm near Mudgee, New South Wales, when the large marsupial "just jumped up and launched straight at her," her son, Darren, told BBC News.
Luckily, Neal is a dog owner, and her faithful friend "heard her screaming and bolted down and chased him off. If it wasn't for the dog, she'd probably be dead." As it is, Mrs. Neal suffered a concussion as well as cuts and bruises to her face, hands and back.
Another thumbs up for (wo)man's best friend, there.
Still, while we might be used to hearing of dogs saving humans from disaster, it's rather less common to hear of the humble rabbit doing so. The Melbourne-based owners of the inventively named Rabbit, were woken by scratching at their bedroom door.
The man (whose identity has not been released) got up to discover a fire in a back room and rapidly-spreading smoke. The couple escaped unharmed, thanks to Rabbit's warning.
