Audio: PAAG and the problem with pet classified ads

Many well-meaning animal lovers are finding themselves heartbroken as a result of buying a pet via a classified advertisement or website and finding that they're running to the vet within days or even hours of bringing their new companion home.

If you've bought a sick or problem pet from such an advertisement, the Pet Advertising Advisory Group wants to hear from you. You can find out more on the PAAG website, including information about consumer legislation that might help stop unscrupulous breeders.

Below is a BBC Notts radio interview from September, featuring Dogs Trust CEO Clarissa Baldwin (we are a member of PAAG).

If you know of anyone who is considering buying a pet through an ad, please encourage them to think carefully about the source of the animal and arm them with the right questions to ask.

This is especially important on the run-up to the festive season as we remember that "a dog is for life, not just for Christmas".
