This weekend, from Saturday 22nd March, to Sunday 24th
March Abington resident Mark Westall will brave the elements to run a tough 3 day marathon in aid of Dogs Trust.
Mark is a keen runner and decided to train for the marathon
after he gave a home to his dog Fudge from our Newbury centre. The marathon
consists of a 3 day event starting in Charmouth and finishing at the National
Trust’s Shell Bay in Studland. Each day’s route took
in a variety of terrain from coastal foot path to beaches and tracks and
covered the length of the Jurassic Coast Line, well known for its spectacular
views and tough hills.
Mark said:
“I trained my hardest and managed to run all 3 days,
with my son George and dog Fudge joining me on the last day. Fudge was a rescue
dog from Dogs Trust Newbury, and I wanted to give something back as the staff
there do a terrific job of finding suitable homes for unwanted or abandoned
dogs, who are perfectly healthy and happy but in need of a loving home.”
Maureen Iggleden, Manager at Dogs Trust Newbury said:
“A 3 day marathon is an outstanding achievement and we
are thrilled to receive Mark’s support for our centre and the wider charity. So
many of our lovely dogs need homes, and with all proceeds from Mark’s marathon
going to Dogs Trust, we will be able to continue caring for them to our best
ability until they find their forever homes “
