Lily the Great Dane: a mini update

We know lots of people out there are interested to know what's happened with Lily the Great Dane at Dogs Trust Shrewsbury, so we thought we'd share a short update we received this week.

Last week, Lily was 'booked' (reserved) by a carefully selected, committed new owner, and over the weekend she moved from the centre to her new home. As Lily is blind, adjusting can take some time because the home environment is a more complex one than kennels; we will do another update in the New Year when we have confirmation that she has settled in well to a loving forever home. So far, though, the signs are good, and centre staff are very hopeful.

We thank you again for all the interest you have shown in Lily's welfare.

@Kathy, unfortunately Lily attacked Madison after they moved to their new home, the stress of the new environment etc obviously got too much for her. The Dogs Trust attempted to re-introduce the pair several times but sadly it became clear the two could no longer live together.

I'm so happy Lily has found a new forever home in time for christmas, best wishes to her and her new owners x

@Kathy, unfortunately Lily attacked Madison soon after they moved to their new home. The Dogs Trust made several attempts to reintroduce the pair but sadly it soon became apparent the two could no longer live together. The stress of a new environment must have been too much for Lily and her frustration was vented on Madison.

I'm so happy that Lily has found a new forever home, I hope she and her new family have a wonderful christmas.

Hi Anon,

Thank you for your concern about Maddison. Once the decision was made that they had to be separated, for their safety, health and happiness, we were able to rehome Maddison to the family that originally wanted to take both of them, so she is no longer at the centre but in a home of her own.

Good luck to Lily. I bet Maddison misses her terribly. It such a shame that their friendship was not able to endure the stress of the first move. It was such an inspiring story.

So sorry to hear this, but glad Lily found a potential home. We also adopted a blind, from birth, pup (also part Great Dane). We later, after doing multiple doggie dates and meet and greets adopted another dog from the same rescue. For 3+ months, they were in LOVE, inseperable and depended on each other. A dog moved in next door that kept getting in our yard and the new dog scent freaked out our sweet blind boy so much that he turned on our new rescue. I was wondering what you did on trying to reintroduce them because he's only 1 1/2 so we are hoping we can still work out their differences and get them back together.

Good luck with Lily! Looking forward to the update!

This saddens me. Lily and Madison should not have been separated, and so soon after they had been re-homed!! This was a stressful situation for both of them. I do not believe that the Williams family were the right people to take care these two dogs!
